Volunteers

Make a Difference....
Think about becoming an adult or junior hospital volunteer at ACMH Hospital.

There are many reasons why volunteers find this a rewarding experience. They learn new skills, share their interests, make new friends and gain satisfaction that comes from helping others. Volunteers offer their time and talents to support the work of the hospital staff. These services help the patients, staff, families and the community.   Volunteers come from all backgrounds.

Junior Volunteer Program

  • High school students 15-18 have twelve assignment areas where they can become involved including the Kids' Fun & Fitness Program and Junior Patient Escorts.
  • If they have health career interests, there are service opportunities in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Medical Records, Unit Clerk Assistant on the nursing units, assisting the Recreational Therapist on the Skilled Nursing Unit, and serving at the three area Primary Care Centers.

College Student Program

  • To meet college major requirements to pursue certain health careers, college students can find ACMH Hospital a place to get that health career experience.

Adult Volunteer Program

  • Adult volunteers have 32 assignment areas from which to choose involving either direct, indirect, or no patient contact in clinical areas and clerical positions. Traditional areas of service are working in the Snack Bar, Gift Shop, or Information Desk, Patient Escorts in Ambulatory Surgery, X-ray, and Physical Therapy Departments, assisting the Recreational Therapist on the Skilled Nursing Unit and the Psychiatric Unit, Pet Therapy, Tot Trax, and the Warm Welcomes program working with new mothers and their infants, among many other options. Volunteers also serve as liaisons in the Emergency Department assisting with the registration process, explaining triage, and extending a hand to patients and families. This commitment to patient care and comfort is also demonstrated in the new Volunteer Patient Ambassador Program where volunteers "make rounds" to in-patients and assist staff members in making patient stays as comfortable as possible.
