2007 Fall Health Fair and Wellness Walk

Keith Jones, morning anchor from KDKA, came as our special guest. He enjoyed being the Master of Ceremony for the event. John Jakicic from America on the Move gave us information about the nationwide movement. If you would like more information on America on the Move, click on this link www.americaonthemove.org.
One of the highlights of the day was a Footbag demonstration provided by 3 members of the Seneca Valley Footbag Club. These students have amazing talent and provided the crowd with a fun demo. They also stayed after the walk to work one-on-one with those who wanted to learn more about the sport. To top this off, the ACMH Hospital Foundation provided all pre-registered children in grades K-12 a free hacky sack and instructions to learn at home or in school!
Contributions received from area business, individuals and health care providers were used to provide free raffle prizes such as 2 ipods, 2 bicycles, fitness equipment, walking tapes and a Heinz Ward autographed photo!
Everyone enjoyed their walk and stayed for the health fair and car cruise! ACMH Hospital employees provided information about their departments and giveaways to community members. Healthy food was provided by the ACMH Hospital Auxiliary. A rock climbing wall and obstacle course rounded out the fun.
These community events are a part of wellness programs being provided by ACMH all the time. Remember, at ACMH, we are working together to make a HEALTHY Armstrong!

The 4th Annual ACMH Hospital Foundation Premier Golf
Outing was held at Birdsfoot Golf Club on August 16, 2007. It was a
beautiful sunny day with 144 golfers! Not only did everyone have fun,
but the proceeds from the day will go to health and wellness programs
throughout the ACMH Hospital service area! Programs and projects funded
from past golf events include the Drugs Kill Dreams billboard on Rte 28
near the Pittsburgh Mills Mall, Vision Vouchers to provide free eye
exams to the ASD and Divine Redeemer students without eye insurance,
sponsorship of the Reality Tour, and support of the health fair and
wellness walks at the ACMH Hospital.
Thanks to all of our sponsors
and to all of our
volunteers
for making our annual fundraising event a huge success!

Jazzercise and Cardio Salsa

Cinco de Mayo Wellness Walk (click here for pictures)
The Cinco de Mayo Wellness Walk was a huge success! Fun was had by every age group! 415 participants walked towards fitness. 35 prizes were given away to both children and adults. The big raffle prizes were 2 bicycles, 2 Ipods, and several guest passes to the Belmont pool complex and the Armstrong YMCA. Other great prizes were contributed by many doctors, businesses and individuals.
1st place costume contest winners of the family division won a year family membership at the YMCA. The 1st place individual also won a year membership at the YMCA. Pets were included in the fun and prizes for the pooches were two great gift baskets donated by Portraits by Heather.
Carol Best and Linda Newell, lead walkers from the Leslie Sansone Walking group, presented a great walking presentation. They lead the group in the walk and helped judge the costume contest. We thank Leslie Sansone as she provided twelve walking tapes and DVD’s to raffle to the crowd. She also donated 10 DVD’s to the ACMH Hospital Foundation to stock a fitness lending library. More information is to come about this great project!
Latin music was provided by our own John Dunmire and Erin Bowser warmed the crowd up with her Jazzercise routine. Remember, Cardio Salsa and Jazzercise are coming this weekend!! Remember to sign up by downloading a form from the website or emailing me for your own form at foundation@acmh.org.
The Foundation wishes to spread the word to become more active and fit so every participant was given an orange rubber “cause” bracelet that reads “Win by Walking.” By wearing the bracelet, each person becomes an advocate for fitness! During the 5K races in the summer at Ford City, Elderton, and Rural Valley, these bracelets will continue to be given out to carry on the fitness word.
I’d like to thank all the great volunteers and hospital employees for making this event such a success! Mark your calendars to join us this fall for the 2nd annual Health Fair and Wellness Walk on September 29, 2007.
